What is a Revit file?
RVT is the project format of Autodesk Revit, the dominant BIM (Building Information Modeling) authoring tool. A Revit model is less a drawing than a database of building elements: walls, floors, structure, ducts, pipes, and equipment, each carrying parameters and relationships, with drawings and schedules generated from the same source.
Alongside project files, Revit uses RFA files for families, the reusable component definitions placed into projects. For a manufacturer, the RVT of a plant built or renovated in the last fifteen years is often the most complete digital description of the building that exists.
Where these files come from
RVT files come from architects, MEP engineers, and construction teams: new plant projects, renovation models, and coordination models handed over at the end of construction.
How to import Revit files into Moicon
As simple as four steps, from file to factory floor.

Upload your model
In the Moicon dashboard, select Add asset and drag and drop your .rvt file.
Step 2
Let it process
Moicon translates Revit files through Autodesk Platform Services, the service behind its support for more than 70 formats. Translation time depends on the size and complexity of the model and the current service load.
Step 3
Name and organize it
Give the asset a name, add a thumbnail so it is easy to spot, and file it under the categories your team uses in the asset library.
Step 4
Place it in your project
Open your project and drop the asset into the viewport. From there you can position, clone, and scale it like any other asset in your twin.

What is the difference between RVT and RFA?
RVT is a full project model. RFA is a family, a reusable component definition such as a door type or an equipment item, loaded into projects.
Do I need Revit to use an RVT in Moicon?
No. The upload is translated in the cloud, and the model is viewed in the browser, so no Revit license is needed to see the building.
Should I use RVT or IFC for my building model?
If you have the native RVT, it is the primary source. IFC is the vendor-neutral exchange derived from it, valuable when data comes from mixed BIM tools or contractual openBIM requirements.
