What is a SLDPRT file?
SLDPRT is the native part format of SolidWorks, the mid-range mechanical CAD system from Dassault Systèmes that is arguably the most widely installed 3D MCAD tool in small and mid-size manufacturing. A part file stores the full parametric story: the feature tree, sketches, dimensions, and configurations, not just the resulting shape.
Because it is a native format, SLDPRT normally requires SolidWorks to open. Cloud translation changes that equation: uploading the native file preserves a step of fidelity and effort compared to asking a designer to export a neutral copy first.
Where these files come from
Anywhere SolidWorks runs: internal design departments, machine builders, job shops, and suppliers. If your company designs its own fixtures or equipment, SLDPRT files are probably accumulating on a shared drive right now.
How to import SLDPRT files into Moicon
As simple as four steps, from file to factory floor.

In the Moicon dashboard, select Add asset and drag and drop your .sldprt file.
Step 2
Let it process
Moicon translates SLDPRT files through Autodesk Platform Services, the service behind its support for more than 70 formats. Translation time depends on the size and complexity of the model and the current service load.
Step 3
Name and organize it
Give the asset a name, add a thumbnail so it is easy to spot, and file it under the categories your team uses in the asset library.

Place it in your project
Open your project and drop the asset into the viewport. From there you can position, clone, and scale it like any other asset in your twin.

Do I need SolidWorks installed to view SLDPRT files in Moicon?
No. Translation happens in the cloud when you upload the file, and Moicon runs in the browser, so anyone on the team can see the part without a CAD seat.
Should I upload SLDPRT or export STEP first?
If you have the native file, uploading it directly is one less conversion step. STEP remains the right choice when you are sending models outside SolidWorks-equipped organizations.
What about SolidWorks assemblies?
Assemblies use the .sldasm extension and behave differently: they reference part files rather than containing geometry. See the SLDASM page for what that means when uploading.
